AN American charity, McKnight Foundation of Minnesota, has provided sh1.5b to several Ugandan NGOs to enhance women’s economic opportunities.

The Buganda Cultural and Development Foundation (BUCADEF) has been awarded US$101,000 (sh177m) to help women start agricultural-supply businesses .ActionAid Uganda has also received US$100,000 (sh175m) for an agricultural programme. Kyewalabye Male, a BUCADEF official, said, “The grant was approved last year and we are in the process of accessing the money,” he said, adding that Kiboga and Mubende would benefit first would be used to extend financial credit to women starting with Kiboga and Mubende districts.The ActionAid finance controller, Ronald Kirabira, confirmed the grant. Rubaga Youth Development Association has received $15,000 for a business skills pilot training programme. The head of the group, Geoffrey Kyeyune, told the New Vision recently, that the money was used for a youth project last year.Ends
