Top Army Officers To Verify Luweero Creditors

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appointed 10 senior army officers among them Lt. Gen David Tinyefuza to the Luweero War Debt Verification Committee to help in verifying claims of Luweero war claimants.

Gen David Tinyefuza to the Luweero War Debt Verification Committee to help in verifying claims of Luweero war claimants.This brings the number of committee members to 20. Being former commanders on the frontline during the war, they are to help rid the list of false claimants.Other additions to the committee include Lt. Gen. Elly Tumwine, Brig. Matayo Kyaligonza, Col. Samson Waswa, Col. John Mugume, Col. Elly Kayanja, Lt. Prossy Nalweyiso, Lt. Col. Fred Mwesigye, Maj. Mathias Sewankambo and Captain Maimuna Nadduli.The old committee includes Maj. Jacob Asiimwe, Gertrude Njuba, Prince Juuko Walugembe, Maj. Sewankambo, Maj. Kifufumba, E. Seddunga, Capt. John Kaye, MP Kibirango, Lt. Sula Sserunjogi, another Sserunjogi and R. Kayiwa. Tim Lwanga, the Minister of State for Luweero Triangle, told journalists at his offices yesterday that the inclusion of war-time commanders came out of a meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and the war creditors on December 22, 2001.Lwanga said the new committee started its work yesterday. “It will go through the approved and rejected claims,” Lwanga said.He said the final findings shall be made available at all sub-county headquarters in Luweero district. He said the payment programme is expected to be ready by February 16.“The names of all whose claims have been rejected shall be forwarded to and displayed at the respective sub-county headquarters in Luweero Triangle,” Lwanga said.Ends
