CECAFA club champions Tusker of Kenya have stepped up preparations for the regional championships in Zanzibar February 17-March 4 saying that they will be the team to beat.

BY REUBEN OLITA IN NAIROBICECAFA club champions Tusker of Kenya have stepped up preparations for the regional championships in Zanzibar February 17-March 4 saying that they will be the team to beat.Coach Jacob Ghost Mulei said they had started early preparations as every team will go ‘flat out’ to end their two-time hold on the coveted trophy.Although admitting that it will not be a bed of roses, Mulei said he was optimistic of success with good planning and keeping the playing unit intact.Tusker are in group “B” together with Forodha of Zanzibar, Elman (Somalia), Prince Louis (Burundi) and Simba SC(Tanzania).Ugandan champions SC Villa are in group “A” with Mlandege (Zanzibar), Electricity (Ethiopia), APR (Rwanda) and Kenya's Oserian Fastac.Villa will open their campaign for the title with a match against hosts Mlandege on February 17 while Tusker have an opening date against Forodha on February 18.Meanwhile, Cecafa secretary-general Nicholas Musonye leaves for Mali today to attend the CAF congress that precedes the Nations Cup kick off.Musonye said he will be in West Africa to continue with the regional body's bid to be a role model through securing sponsorship and other incentives.
