Sudan earn CECAFA pardon, hosts in 2003

THE indefinite ban imposed on Sudan by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association(CECAFA) has been lifted, secretary Nicholas Musonye announced in Nairobi yesterday.

By Reuben OlitaTHE indefinite ban imposed on Sudan by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association(CECAFA) has been lifted, secretary Nicholas Musonye announced in Nairobi yesterday.Consequently, Sudan has confirmed its commitment to host next year's Senior Challenge Cup.Musonye also disclosed at a press conference that Uganda had confirmed hosting next year's club championships.Musonye said Sudan had been re-admitted into the CECAFA fold after they put up a convincing case for their return during the council's congress in Mali on January 17.Following the latest developments, Musonye said Sudan will enter this year's youth championships in Eritrea in August and the Challenge Cup in Tanzania.Musonye said their meeting in Bamako also realised the introduction of a cup to feature champions from the three regions of CECAFA, COSAFA and WAFU as part of the exchange programme between the three organisations.
