Karimojong have over 100,000 guns â€" priest

THE Soroti Catholic Diocese Justice and Peace Commission Executive Secretary, the Rev. Fr. Boguslaw Zero, on Friday said on Veritas 91.5 FM Radio that the government had underestimated the number of guns in Karamoja.

Boguslaw Zero, on Friday said on Veritas 91.5 FM Radio that the government had underestimated the number of guns in Karamoja.He said the illegal guns there were more than 40,000 and the actual figure could be about 100,000.Zero said reports from Karamoja showed that there were more guns than the official government estimated number.Zero, who is based in Katakwi district and has been involved in highlighting the plight of over 86,000 internally displaced people there said they were looking forward to the total disarmament of the Karimojong warriors.“As the clergy of Soroti diocese, we have sent a letter to the head of state through the President’s office, demanding to have a meeting with him on the issue of the Karimojong,” Zero said.He said the reason for calling the meeting was to have an opportunity of presenting an independent report of the Katakwi situation as religious leaders working in the area.
