By Vision Reporter MBARARA district chairman Fred Kamugira has asked the government to expand Mbarara University of Science and Technology to eliminate congestion. The university accomodates about 800 students who are supported by a big staff. He said he had asked the government to develop the university land on the Mbarara-Bushenyi highway, which is big enough to accommodate thousands of students. He added that the government assured him that there was a plan being developed for that purpose. Kamugira was on Saturday addressing a gathering at Kakyeka Stadium, Kamukuzi in Mbarara during the celebrations to mark the 16th NRA/NRM anniversary. “Developing a plan costs a lot of money, which is not readily available. But Mbarara University should occupy that land immediately,” he said as the crowd cheered enthusiastically. Kamugira denounced the Electoral Commission for delaying to deliver voting materials for some LC3 constituents, saying it has demoralised the voters. “However, I am glad to say that all the elected leaders from LC1 to LC4 in Mbarara district are “movement supporters,” he said, sparking off more applause. He rapped the management of Uganda television for spending a month without transmitting to Mbarara which has made them miss the Africa Cup of Nations. The Mbarara resident district commissioner, Joseph Arwata, who was guest of honour, warned against political pluralism and urged them to disassociate themselves from those agitating for it.
