IGG Wants Uganda Post Ltd Boss Fired

THE Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has recommended the sacking of the managing director (MD) of Uganda Posts Limited (UPL).

By Kezio MusokeTHE Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has recommended the sacking of the managing director (MD) of Uganda Posts Limited (UPL).The IGG said Augustine Munyarugerero has reached retirement age, his contract has expired, his performance is dismal and he should be replaced.The IGG preliminary report tabled to parliament recently said in January 2000, when investigations were carried out to stop corruption and promote good governance in UPL, Munyarugerero showed poor performance.The report said, “from the time of commencement of the study to the time it was concluded, which was a year, the MD was absent from office, having taken either his annual or sick leave.”“his contract expired in March 2001 and no action was taken by the appointing authority. his relatively regular absence from office is a stumbling block to the decision making and implementation process.” the report added. The recommendation comes after the IGG investigated complaints of dishonesty, inefficiency, neglect of duty, mismanagement of company funds, abuse of office, purchasing of poor quality equipment and deployment of incompetent staff in UPL.Ends
