By Norman Katende FUFA have held their ground and insisted the league sponsors hand clubs transport money.Sponsors Nile, BAT, Shell, MTN and Coca Cola had preferred to use the money to give the Super league much-needed publicity. This, the clubs refused. The soccer governing body FUFA and league organisers NFLC made their point for the clubs retaining the sponsorship at a meeting in Jinja.Main sponsors Nile insisted they needed more time to consult. The league kicks-off on Saturday.“We had a very good meeting. The sponsors listened though it was not conclusive,” said FUFA general secretary Haruna Mawanda.“Judging from the discussion held, the sponsors were positive.” The 15 league clubs prefer a gradual change if any. When contacted for comment, Nile Breweries brand manager David Nsiyoona said that they had listened but some little consultations will follow.“I am meeting the MD tomorrow. We will have the final decision on paper tomorrow,” he said yesteday. The sponsors announced last year that the transport money be spent on advertisement. This was not received well by the clubs who threatened not to put on jerseys with the sponsors’ logo until the decision is revisited. The league kicks off with KCC taking on Police at Nakivubo while Nile, who have merged with Military, will host Iganga at Kakindu stadium on Sunday. The next games, in fixtures yet to be released, will be played on TuesdayHowever, the issue of sub-standard home grounds has forced NFLC to summon Zone 4 chairman David Otti and Arua garage executive.NFLC has has also recommended temporary change of grounds until repairs are made for Iganga FC (from Iganga to Bugembe), Lyantonde-URA (Lyantonde to Masaka), Kasese TC (Kasese to Mbarara).ends
