INMATES at Mubuku Government Prison, Kasese, have not appeared in court for over two months due to lack of transport.

By John ThawiteINMATES at Mubuku Government Prison, Kasese, have not appeared in court for over two months due to lack of transport.The officer in charge, Dr. George Muge, revealed this in a report to finance minister Gerald Ssendaula recently.Muge, who described lack of transport as the prison’s main problem, said the inmates were supposed to be transported almost daily to court in Kasese town, 12kms away.“Unfortunately, we don’t have any vehicle in the station,” Muge said.He said out of the 240 prisoners as at February 7, 46 were convicts while 194 were on remand.Ssendaula was in the district to carry out a one-day cotton inspection tour.
