By Vision Reporter Mbarara authorities have lifted the quarantine against livestock and their products in Kenshunga and Kashongi sub-counties in Kazo County. The Chief Administrative Officer, Hezzy Kafureka, said about half the district has been under a quarantine for the last six months because of the foot and mouth disease.“Movement of animals to and from those sub-counties may start again because the pandemic has been neutralised,” he said.He was addressing a press conference held at his office in Kamukuzi near Mbarara town on Friday. He, however, said some areas like Sanga, Nyakashashara, Kikatsi and Kanyaryeru which are located between Mbarara town and Lyantonde are still under quarantine because the disease has not yet been wiped out.He said the veterinary staff and local council executives should increase their efforts in affected areas including Bukanga and Isingiro counties. Kafureka said the disease emanated from Tanzania. He hailed the residents for being vigilant in fighting the spread of the disease. He said the government was constructing health centres in the district.
