Sixty defiled in Kasese last year

ABOUT 60 pupils were defiled between November 2000 and December 2001 in Kasese district, a report to the district education officer (DEO), has revealed.

By John Nzinjah ABOUT 60 pupils were defiled between November 2000 and December 2001 in Kasese district, a report to the district education officer (DEO), has revealed.A para-legal officer in the DEO’s office at the district headquarters in Rukoki, Godfrey Kamanzi, confirmed recently that the report had revealed that a total of 57 pupils had been defiled during that period. The report further said only ten out of the 37 cases reported to the Police were prosecuted. The others were reportedly dropped.Kamanzi said most defilement cases in the villages were not pursued and in most cases the Police were not informed.According to the report, most pupils are defiled teachers and headteachers.Among the people currently facing defilement charges is the director of Kasese Airstrip Primary School, Albert Kamachoko.He is on remand at Mubuku Prison.The District Police Commander, Pius Mutabazi, last week said it was difficult to curb defilement in Kasese because Bakonzo women are very short.Mutabazi was speaking at Kyanzukyi Primary School in Kilembe sub-county at the women’s club annual meeting.
