Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday interrogated Bukedde editors and the circulation manager for five-and-a-half hours over nude beauty contestants the paper published on Monday.

Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday interrogated Bukedde editors and the circulation manager for five-and-a-half hours over nude beauty contestants the paper published on Monday.Anne Mugisa reports that Bukedde editor Maurice Ssekawungu, chief sub-editor Andrew Kaggwa and circulation manager Tom Wasswa reported to the CID headquarters at around 10:00am and left at around 5:20pm. The Police, however, released them on bond and ordered them to report back on March 4.The three, who were accompanied to the CID by New Vision’s corporation secretary Robert Kabushenga, were interrogated under section 161 of the Penal Code Act which prohibits “trafficking in obscenities.”The Police, however, are yet to decide whether to charge the three over the pictures of the beauty contestants photographed on the catwalk at the Sky Larc Pub in Kitintale.The interrogation followed a complaint by ethics and integrity minister Miria Matembe about the photographs. Matembe is reported to have directed the CID to arrest Bukedde editors, the organisers of the beauty contest, the owners of Sky Lark Pub and the girls who appeared in the paper.The girls were competing for a sh100,000 top prize. One of those who appeared in Bukedde wore a G-string, which left her entire back naked, while another covered her trunk with a transparent costume. The three were interrogated by the officer-in-charge, serious crime, Charles Dickens Ojakol. They denied the offence. Ssekawungu said he was not on duty that day.Ends
