FORMER Africa rally champion Charles Muhangi has his eyes firmly set on a debut in the prestigious Kenya Safari rally in July, reports Douglas Mazune.

FORMER Africa rally champion Charles Muhangi has his eyes firmly set on a debut in the prestigious Kenya Safari rally in July, reports Douglas Mazune.Muhangi revealed yesterday he would compete more regularly in the local events, but in his old Subaru Ekitaguriiro I and Mitsubishi Evo 6 that will be ready at the end of the month.His newly acquired Subaru Impreza WRC ‘Ekitaguriiro II’ will be reserved for the Safari.“I tested the machine in Mbarara and confirmed it can do what I want to do in the Safari,” Muhangi said. National champion Charlie Lubega (Mitsubishi Evo4) also intends to make his Safari debut. Karim Hirji and Emma Katto have been to the rally before. r Freddy Loix’ brand new Hyundai Accent WRC3 was the first casualty of Corsica’s difficult mountain stages. The Belgian, fighting his way back to fitness after his Monte Carlo accident, rattled the new car along a rock face on the shakedown yesterday. The damage to the Hyundai is thought to be repairable in time for tomorrow morning’s start.
