The Minister of Water, Lands and Environment, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, has advised Ugandans to build capacities that will enable the country to stop begging and graduate into self-reliance, reports Dan nSalasatta. He was referring to the water supply scheme he had commissioned in Kayunga town council last Thursday. The sh1.9b scheme was funded by the Royal Embassy of Denmark.Rugunda told Kayunga residents that it was shameful for Ugandans whose country is twice as big as Denmark, with a total population of 23 million to get development support from the five million people in Denmark. He said Uganda was a land of plenty, gets rainfall and sunshine throughout the year and experiences two harvesting periods annually. He said Denmark gets sunshine three months in a year and the rest is snow.“Let us work hard to liberate this country from this bad practice of begging,” he said. Rugunda urged Kayunga residents not to not go back to the Danish Embassy to ask for support to sustain the scheme but devise means of self-sustainance.He said Kayunga being a rural district should respond to the Government strategic plan of revamping the economy through production of prioritised export oriented products.
