THE Kingdom of Belgium through the Belgian Technical Cooperation has launched a sh8b rural community development project in Kasese district.

By John Thawite and John NzinjahTHE Kingdom of Belgium through the Belgian Technical Cooperation has launched a sh8b rural community development project in Kasese district.The Belgian ambassador to Uganda, Carl Peeters, said this recently in a meeting with the district officials at Rukoki district headquarters.He said the three-year programme was initiated in December 2001.Peeters was flanked by the district LC5 chairman, Yokasi Bihande and the Resident District Commissioner, Musa Ecweru.He said the project was aimed at developing water supply, feeder roads, agricultural extension, health care and land use planning.He said it would also focus on capacity building, gender issues, adult literacy and human resource development.Peeters warned that the project was “not a charity, but a development” aimed at uplifting the general public welfare in the district.Bihande pledged that his government would put the funds to proper use and follow strict accountability.Ends
