MORE than 100 Local Defence Unit personnel (LDUs) in Nakawa division have been laid off due to lack of funds to sustain them, reports Martin Kiiza.

MORE than 100 Local Defence Unit personnel (LDUs) in Nakawa division have been laid off due to lack of funds to sustain them, reports Martin Kiiza.Each LDU has been getting sh20,000 per month as salary. This was disclosed by the Nakawa Division Commander, Sam Okumu Mangeni, during a security meeting held at Naguru-Katale Primary School recently.“A total of about 150 LDUs have been dropped due to lack of salary payments to sustain them,” Mangeni said.He said the division is remaining with about 77 LDUs.It was resolved that bars and other social centres close by 11:00pm due to the escalating insecurity.Ends
