The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was established under the National Environment Statute No.5 of 1995 to coordinate, monitor and supervise all activities in the field of environment for purposes of ensuring sustainable development in Uganda. NEMA became operational in January 1996 and has been in existence since then.NEMA invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacant position:1. ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMIST (1 POST) - readvertisedThe Environmental Economist reports to the Director, Policy, Planning and Information and will be responsible for developing and communicating tools for environment economic analysis.Main tasks will include the following, among others:- Developing tools, instruments and procedures for collecting, processing and integrating data on important environmental and economic parameters;- Developing and reviewing policies and institutional frameworks with a view to including in them important environmental considerations;- Undertaking extended benefit-cost analysis of new policies, plans, programs and institutional arrangement with a view to determining the most cost-effective and sustainable options;- Any other tasks that may be assigned.Qualification: M.Sc/M.A Economics, M.A. Economic Policy Planning and Analysis. Relevant training in agricultural economics, health, forestry or another area relevant to environmental economics will be desirable.Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in Environment and Natural Resource Management with a bias in Environment and Natural Resource Economics.NEMA is an equal opportunity employer.Remuneration for the above position is attractive.
