By Phillip CorrySIX rowers yesterday completed a breathtaking 450 km five-day journey on Lake Victoria in a bid to raise $ 25,000 (sh 44m) for the Rhino Uganda Fund, Hospice Uganda and Nsambya babies home. The tired DAS Challenge crew arrived at Munyonyo from Mwanza in the afternoon.“It was one hell of an experience out there,” David Case one of the rowers told The New Vision. “ The water out there is a whole sea and you do not seem to realise it until right deep in there.”On the team were Paul Gilks, Ken Opitto, Paul Spyropolos, Andrew Spyropolos, Mike Kontos and Case. The challenge was primarily sponsored by Das Air. The other sponsors included Sudhir Ruparelia, Crane Bank, Kabira Country Club, Speke Resort and Country Lodge together with 40 other companies who sponsored in kind.“This kind of thing has never happened in Africa,” Sanjiv Patel, a support crew member said of the record-breaking feat.Ends
