By John Thawite in Kasese ABOUT 400 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been evicted from Mubuku Prison land at Kabukero in Kasese district. The IDPs settled in the area after fleeing from ADF attacks on the sub-counties of Rukoki, Bugoye, Maliba and Kitswamba. The officer in charge of the prison, Dr. George Muge, said he allowed them to use the prison land on condition that they would return home after the war.He said they refused to honour the arrangement after the defeat of ADF and instead started building permanent homes and institutions including two churches, a market and a nursery school. He said after futile efforts to have the IDPs return to their homes, he forcefully evicted them on March 4.Muge said the land at Kabukero was designated for a female inmates’ wing and a vocational training centre for the prison. He said the prison had started planting trees on the vacated land.Ends
