Kony hiding in Acholi hills, says Bantariza

THE chief of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), Joseph Kony, is reportedly hiding and roaming in the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) controlled areas.

By Dennis OjweeTHE chief of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), Joseph Kony, is reportedly hiding and roaming in the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) controlled areas.Kony is reportedly commanding a large group of about 1,000 LRA combatants and hiding around Acholi hills (Ngong hills), about 30 miles from the Uganda- Sudan border.The army spokesman, Maj. Shaban Bantariza, confirmed to The New Vision on Wednesday that Kony was leading a group of about 1,000 soldiers.Bantariza said Brig. Matata and Vincent Otti were also commanding forces of about 1,000 soldiers in different areas.“Kony was still moving within the SPLA areas with a large group of soldiers (combatants) while Otti and Matata controlled about 1,000 soilders on average. But all the same, we (UPDF) will get them. We have also recovered ammunitions from Kony’s abandoned camp at Bin Rwot. four LRA combatants reported recently,” he said.Bantariza said the UPDF operation was moving well and said LRA rebels had reported to the UPDF camps.He did not however, disclose how many reported.
