The thugs, usually dressed in army uniform, mount illegal roadblocks at night and rob travellers at Kanyaryeru near Sanga Trading Centre.The South-western Regional CID, Terense Kinyera, last Sunday, said an estimated 17 armed thugs wearing red caps, staged a roadblock and robbed passengers of money and property worth millions of shillings!Kinyera on Tuesday told the press that the thugs blocked the road using a lorry - from 3:00am up to 6:00pm. “They robbed money and other property like mobile phones from travellers,” he said. Kinyera said by the time the Police patrol team arrived at the scene the robbers had escaped. He said on April 9, eight armed robbers robbed occupants of an Isuzu lorry UAD 196D. “The thugs picked one passenger, Musoke Nsubuga of Nabweru in Kampala, tied his arms and legs, and lay him in the middle of the road,” he said. Kinyera said when a speeding FUSO truck carrying matooke to Kampala arrived, they tried to stop it, but it continued and crushed Musoke dead.Kinyera said the thugs shot at the vehicle but it continued and nobody inside it was hurt. “I am surprised to hear of such heavily armed robbers, but we are carrying out investigations, ” he said. Kinyera advised passengers to move with guards to protect their money. He said Kanyaryeru is a danger zone because it is an isolated place.Ends
