THE paramount chief of the Acholi traditional leaders, Rwot Oryang Lagony, has urged the Acholi to stop killing each other and find peaceful means of conflict resolution.

By Denis OcwichTHE paramount chief of the Acholi traditional leaders, Rwot Oryang Lagony, has urged the Acholi to stop killing each other and find peaceful means of conflict resolution.Lagony said on saturday that the current war in the north had caused the collapse of Acholi norms.“The level of violence that is now existing in our community is not traditional,” he told a public debate at Mary Stuart Hall, Makerere University.The meeting, whose theme centred on the way forward to achieve development in Acholi land, was organised by Makerere University Omoro Students Association and Acholi Students Association (AMSA).Omoro MP Jacob Oulanyah said as one way of realising reconciliation and peace building, the Acholi Parliamentary Group would organise joint rallies in Gulu, Kitgum and Pader districts.Others who contributed to the debate included presidential adviser on agriculture, Dr. J.J Otim and World Bank consultant, J.J Oloya.Makerere University new guild president Denis Okema said Acholi leaders and elders must keep politics out of development issues to uplift the people’s well being.“Politics must be out, then we look at the development of our people,” Okema told the gathering.Ends
