By Yunusu AbbeyLieutenant General Salim Saleh has said the government’s decision to hold peace talks with the Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF) II rebel group which led to their renouncement of rebellion last week, was intended to restore peace and security in West Nile.He told The New Vision in an interview on Friday that those opposed to the UNRF 11 deal, “really don’t know what they are saying.”Saleh, the Reserve Force Commander, said the decision to sit at a round table with the UNRF II, was taken to restore peace, security and stability in the West Nile region.“Those calling the UNRF II and their commander, Major General Ali Bamuze, a spent force don’t know what a guerilla group can do to a country,” he said.Saleh criticised the editorial carried in a Kampala newspaper last week which despised the UNRF II rebel group which was operating from Sudan. He also blasted those who attacked him for allegedy plundering natural resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo.Saleh said, “I know people who are genuinely trading in timber, coffee and other goods in Congo.But I have been sacrificed yet I have never stepped in Eastern Congo since the war broke out.Ends
