Makumbi Now UPDF Medical Chief

FORMER health minister Dr. James Makumbi has been appointed the UPDF chief of medical services.Army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza on Tuesday said President Yoweri Museveni appointed Makumbi to the post two weeks ago.

Shaban Bantariza on Tuesday said President Yoweri Museveni appointed Makumbi to the post two weeks ago.“He was appointed by the President and his name forwarded to the Public Service and the army,” Bantariza said. Makumbi replaces Brig. Dr. Lukanga Ndawula, now an army representative in Parliament.Other sources said Makumbi would also advise the President on health matters.Makumbi, a former Baale county Member of Parliament, tried to regain the seat but lost to dramatist Sulaiman Madada. In 1995, Makumbi hit the headlines when he was kidnapped by rebels led by UPDF renegade Maj. Herbert Itongwa on Gayaza Road near Kasangati. Ends
