By Faustine LikabanaHEAVY rains on Sunday destroyed the only FM radio station in the eastern town of Tororo, reports. The two day downpour damaged the transmitter for Rock Mambo 106.8 FM. The storm damaged houses, crops, trees and caused power cuts in some parts of the town after electric wires were cut off by the falling trees.Arnold Ebbu, the LC I chairman Amonu village near Malaba, said several homes in the village were submerged. He said several animals were swept away by the floods. He said there was possibility that the area might face food shortage if the rains persisted because the land, which could be used for cultivation, was under water.Several people, whose homes were destroyed or submerged are now staying with relatives.Six people have so far drowned on river Malaba since the river broke its banks.Terrified relatives were seen following the river searching for bodies.A resident only identified as Ikase told the New Vision that he saw a cow, pig, jerricans and some bodies being carried down stream.Ends
