SEVERAL Companies have donated equipment and services to Mulago Hospital after a fundraising appeal that was launched by the health state minister, Capt. Mike Mukula, on Friday.

Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Uganda will in two weeks’ time, install a toll-free line (140) at Mulago Hospital that will enable subscribers to access the hospital’s emergency unit.Eric Van Veen, MTN’s marketing manager, made the revelation at the public-private initiative launch, aimed at improving services at Mulago. Users hooked on to other networks will be required to dial 077 140, at a cost.Mukula said while the government spent sh3b on Mulago annually, there was a need for the private sector to assist it by donating equipment needed to improve the services. Imperial Group of Hotels represented by Stanley Marenge, the general manager marketing, donated three JVC 21-inch television sets. Another was donated by Eagle Air, which was represented by Patrick Twikirize, the Marketing Manager.The televisions are to be placed in the wards. Balton Uganda Limited, the authorised dealers of Motorolla cellular phones, represented by Zeev Shiff, are to donate 10 walkie talkies to five base stations to link Mulago to other referral and district hospitals.House of Dawda donated a refrigerator.Ends
