50 Nkore Families Told To Quit Kyangwali

THE state minister for disaster preparedness and refugees, Christine Amongin, has ordered over 50 Banyankole families to immediately vacate the land belonging to Kyangwali refugee resettlement camp in Hoima district.

By Amlan TumusiimeTHE state minister for disaster preparedness and refugees, Christine Amongin, has ordered over 50 Banyankole families to immediately vacate the land belonging to Kyangwali refugee resettlement camp in Hoima district.Amongin said the pastoralists, with over 7,000 head of cattle, were illegally occupying the land reserved for refugees.She was on a familiarisation tour of the district last week.She asked the police to probe the murder of two Congolese refugees.John Safari and Munyankuye Macheche were gunned down recently on their way from Lake Albert to the camp. Amongin also visited the families of the deceased and expressed hope that the culprits would be prosecuted.Sources said the minister’s visit follows recent tribal clashes between the Congolese and Sudanese refugees. The Congolese said the government and other refugee agencies were favouring the Sudanese.The regional Police commander, Grace Turyagumanawe, said police had got some clues on the killers of the refugees and said some arrests would soon be made.The deputy country director for the UN High Commissioner for refugees, Castrol Marcfluff, said they would give a Toyota land cruiser pick-up truck to Hoima district to facilitate their work. He also pledged sh20m to Duhaga SSS. Ends
