ADF Men Captured In Kibaale District

TWO rebel commanders of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) who have been leading attacks in Kibaale have been captured, the army spokesman, Maj. Shaban Bantariza, has said.

Shaban Bantariza, has said.Five girls were also rescued during the operation. “This now ends the Kibaale problem,” he told The New Vision on Thursday.He, however, said the rebels would not be punished. He did not say more about their fate.Independent sources said the rebels handed over their weapons, which included AK 47s, rocket-propelled grenades, bombs and assorted live ammunition and the five girls abducted from Kibaale.Former ADF chief of staff, Chris Tushabe alias “Benz,” identified the rebels as Onyango Kirya, his former chief bodyguard and Mustafa Basalirwa.By Friday, the Chieftaincy of Military Iintelligence was reportedly still holding Kirya while Basalirwa was at the Rwenzori mountains brigade tactical base in Kasese district.The girls were to be taken for rehabilitation at Kyanzuki rebel rehabilitation centre in Kilembe sub-county, Kasese district.The centre is managed and sponsored by “Give me a Chance,” a Norwegian NGO.The New Vision also learnt that the rebel commanders would undergo the same rehabilitation.Benz said they had been in charge of rebel operations in Hoima, Kiboga, Kibaale, Bundibugyo and Kabarole but were based in at River Semliki, from where the UPDF dislodged them after killing most of their colleagues.Ends
