By Geresom MusamaliTHE Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has said party leader Dr. A. M. Obote wrote to Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) leader Joseph Kony after President Museveni said anybody who can get in touch with Kony may do so in the interest of peace.UPC Presidential Policy Commission chairman Dr. James Rwanyarare was early this week reacting to recent criticisms over the letter exiled former president Dr. A. M. Obote wrote to LRA rebel leader Joseph Kony.He was also reacting to Gulu district council chairman Lt. Col. Walter Ochola’s recent demand that all the letters captured from Kony rebels in southern Sudan be published so that politicians who have been collaborating with him are put to shame.“Museveni said he could not talk any peace with Kony. He, however, said any Ugandan who wanted to talk with Kony can go ahead. That is the spirit in which Dr. Obote wrote to Kony,” Rwanyarare said.“We certainly do not agree with some of Kony’s methods. But we do not agree with some of Museveni’s methods either. It was therefore not possible for us to condemn one group and fail to condemn the other. And that is what the letter stated,” he added.Ends
