Fuel Price Up

FUEL prices have gone up by sh50 on petrol and sh20 on diesel and Kerosene.

By Julia Ssekandi and Edris KisambiraFUEL prices have gone up by sh50 on petrol and sh20 on diesel and Kerosene.The price rise took effect last evening when petrol rose from sh1,480 to sh1,530. The diesel pump price rose from sh1,260 to sh1,280 while Kerosene rose from sh1,120 to sh1,140.This follows a tax hike of sh30 per litre of petrol in the 2002/2003 budget that was presented last Thursday by finance minister Gerald Ssendaula. The General Manager of Caltex Uganda, James Chilongo, confirmed they had raised the prices of their products. He said he will issue a statement this morning.Shell Uganda spokesman Kabuye Masadde said he could not comment on the issue.A quick survey by The New Vision at petrol stations around the city revealed that the changes had been effected at Shell, Total and Caltex pumps.The change is expected to cause an upward adjustment in transport fares and the cost of goods upcountry and in the city.
