By Lillian Nalumansi The Namayumba LC3 chairman, Charles Kimera has criticised parents for delegating the role of educating their children to the Government. “Because government introduced the Universal Primary Education (UPE), does not mean you should neglect the responsibility of educating your children. “If the Government pays school fees, you should buy uniforms, books, pens and other materials,” Kimera said.Kimera was on Friday handing over 20 desks to Namayumba Primary School. They were donated to the lower class pupils by the Mission For All (MIFA) an NGO in the area. The headmaster Didas Bisana said most of the pupils starve at school because their parents had not paid lunch fees.“These children walk many miles to school and eat nothing the whole day. Pupils cannot concentrate in class when they have eaten nothing,” Bisana said. He said delays in receiving Universal Primary Education (UPE) monthly capitation grants from the Ministry of Education and Sports had kept the school behind schedule in most of its programmes.MIFA executive secretary Zak Kalega said the pupils were relieved to get desks. He said two and a half years ago, the pupils were sitting on the floor. The organisation caters for needy children.Ends
