Soroti Budget At Sh6.5b

THE Soroti Chief Administrative Officer, George William Omuge, has said the district will receive a total of sh6.5b in the new financial year, reports Kenneth Otim.

THE Soroti Chief Administrative Officer, George William Omuge, has said the district will receive a total of sh6.5b in the new financial year, reports Kenneth Otim.Omuge said the district budget had been reduced from sh8b.“The budget has been cut because the Government did not realise its full expected collection,” he said.He was speaking during the Heroes Day celebrations at Soroti Sports Grounds recently. He said the district would receive another sh2.5b for the local development fund and sh150m for the equalisation grant.Omuge said the Ministry of Local Government had also sent back sh166m that had not been utilised in the last quarter.He urged the contractors for the Serere Health Centre theatre and doctors’ houses to report for work because the money was available.The contractors had left the work because the money had been sent back to Kampala.Omuge, however, said the district funds had been returned.“Sh600m for the development fund has not been received and yet we have limited time to implement the projects,” he said.The Soroti Mayor George William Egunyu said the Municipality had received sh650m for the School Facilities Grant, sh55m for equalisation grant, sh425m for the Local Government Development Fund and sh90m for road construction. However, he said no money was received for health. Ends
