THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is losing its highly trained staff to the private sector, due to poor pay, the Commission probing alleged corruption in the tax body, heard yesterday.

THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is losing its highly trained staff to the private sector, due to poor pay, the Commission probing alleged corruption in the tax body, heard yesterday.Milton Olupot reports that the acting Commissioner, Large Tax Department Francis Byamugisha, told the commission led by Justice Julia Ssebutinde, that URA spent large sums of money on training its staff who ended up joining the better paying private sector.Ssebutinde was on Thursday touring the large tax department in Kampala. She was accompanied by commissioners James Kahooza and Ms. Fawn Cousens, and the lead counsel Maureen Owor.The team is touring major URA offices ahead of the public hearings due next month. Byamugisha said they get better pay elsewhere.Ends
