LDU Charged With Dick Murder

A Special Police Constable and formerly an LDU, has been charged with the murder of Ebonies star Paul Katende, popularly known as Dr. Dick Walusimbi.

By Hillary Kiirya A Special Police Constable and formerly an LDU, has been charged with the murder of Ebonies star Paul Katende, popularly known as Dr. Dick Walusimbi.Grace Ignatius Katumba, No. 2167, clad in a black coat, green pair of trousers and blue slippers, appeared before Makindye Court grade Two magistrate Emmanuel Byarugaba.Katumba, 48, was arrested on April 6 in Gombe sub-county, Wakiso district as the first suspect in the murder of Katende. No more arrests were made.Katende was shot dead in the mouth at close range on March 27 by assailants who took his watch, a jacket and two mobile phones.He was murdered moments after he had driven home his colleague Harriet Nalubwama, commonly known as Nakawunde, after a rehearsal at the VCL studios in Kabuusu.Prosecution led by Geoffrey Mutebi told the court that Katumba and others still at large on March 29 at Kweba zone, Mutundwe division murdered Paul Katende alias Dr. Dick Walusimbi. Mutebi informed court that inquiries were not yet complete.The presiding magistrate told the accused not to enter any plea because the case was above his jurisdiction. He remanded him in Luzira prison.Katumba was charged with a capital offence only triable by the High Court and faces a death penalty if found guilty of murdering Walusimbi. Byarugaba advised the accused to apply for bail in the High Court if he wished to do so.Nearby residents rushed to court eager to have a look at Katumba. They were given access to the accused by the court officials. The case was adjourned to July 15.Ends
