MPIGI district has signed a sh1.3b agreement with Concern Worldwide, to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations working with poor people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

By James BakunziMPIGI district has signed a sh1.3b agreement with Concern Worldwide, to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations working with poor people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.The funds are to benefit five sub-counties in Mpigi district.The HIV/AIDS capacity building project is a five-year project that was launched by Butambala county Member of Parliament Kaddunabbi Lubega.the agreement was signed by the assistant chief administrative officer, Sam Kayongo and Tim Fowler, the acting Concern Worldwide country director at a function held at the district boardroom.Margaret Ssemukasa, the programme manager Concern Worldwide, said the project would target people living with HIV/Aids, orphans and their guardians.The areas of operation include Bulo and Ngando sub-counties in Butambala county, Mpenja, Kyegonza and Maddu sub- counties in Gomba county.“The project will train 600 orphans and youth in marketable skills and equip them with start-up kits,” she said.It will also implement micro-finance for the target groupsThirty groups will be facilitated with training and grants.The district secretary for planning, Joseph Nsereko, appealed to the Government to provide testing centers in the sub-counties.
