By Richard MutumbaFormer President Godfrey Binaisa has said he was democratically and lawfully elected through a secret ballot where he defeated two other candidates, Edward Rugumayo and Paul Muwanga. He dismissed reports that he was an appointee of the National Consultative Council.“I was elected and later appointed President by the NCC through a secret ballot. It is therefore not true that I was a mere appointee of NCC,” he said on telephone.Binaisa, 82, served the Attorney General with a notice of intention to sue for the “criminal act of violently removing” him from office, his detention without trial, destruction of his Mutundwe house and failure to pay all his entitlements as an ex-president.“It took two days of deliberation to remove Yusuf Kironde Lule from office. All procedures were followed. In my case, I was just kidnapped from State House without any reason and held in a small house in Entebbe for months,” Binaisa said angrily. He, however, said he was willing to settle out of court.Ends
