AFTER heated debate at Soroti Lukiiko hall, the district councillors finally elected committee members and approved the executive.

By Kenneth Otim AFTER heated debate at Soroti Lukiiko hall, the district councillors finally elected committee members and approved the executive.Charles Elasu was elected the chairman finance committee, Ochen Ogama (works), Eliphus Etadu (education) and John Olupot (production).The Chief administrative Officer, G.W Omuge, had earlier urged the councillors to elect people with technical knowledge for the positions.“If you elect people without technical knowledge, you will be cheating yourself ” he said.The councillors also approved the executive appointed by the LC5 chairman, Capt. John Emille Otekat, even though they were not pleased by some of the appointments.Darlington Aloki was elected vice chairman, Richard Ongodia (finance), Rachael Adiango (education), Simon Ekungu (works), Mariam Anero (health) and Richard Emano for production.Otekat defended himself saying the appointments were based on regional balance, interest groups, and competence.The councillors dissolved the district service commission tender board and land board committees.
