A STUDENT of Manjasi High School in Tororo was on Saturday hit by stray bullets fired by the Police to restore order during a disco scuffle, reports Abraham Odeke. The incident occurred at Country Inn, east of Tororo town. The Police identified the injured student as John Karangu from Kitale district in western Kenya. He sustained injuries in the abdomen and the right hand. The Tororo District Criminal Investigation Officer, Lawrence Ebwosu, said the students of Majansi High School sneaked out of their school and raided the disco hall at 1:00am to allegedly avenge the beating of their two colleagues by other boys from unknown schools in Tororo town. When the Police arrived at the disco, Manjasi boys had allegedly surrounded the place as they hurled stones at the dancers. Ebwosu said the Police arrested 13 suspects as they attempted to sneak back into their school compounds after the riots. “The injured student was hit by stray bullets. Nobody directed a gun at anybody,” Ebwosu said. The parents of the injured student have reportedly transferred him to a Kenyan Hospital. Tororo residents decried the apparent lack of measures to keep students out of disco halls in the town. Ends
