Lira gets sh3.5m from Sight Savers

THE Lira Multi-purpose Centre for the Blind has received a sh3.5m grant from Sight Savers International to support it train members on braille writing and reading, reports Patrick Oyee.

THE Lira Multi-purpose Centre for the Blind has received a sh3.5m grant from Sight Savers International to support it train members on braille writing and reading, reports Patrick Oyee.George Adoko, the Lira assistant chief administrative officer, recently handed over the cheque to Patrick Ocen, the centre chairman at the district rehabilitation office.Adoko commended Sight Savers for supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district. He warned the centre against misusing the money meant to transform their lives.He said the district was committed to supporting PWDs through community services but lacked resources. Ocen said the money would be used to train the members on craft-making, mobility orientation, music and drama.Samuel Mari, the northern region Sight Savers co-ordinator, David Agena, the district disabled persons chairman, witnessed the hand over.
