TENNIS returns at Lugogo this weekend when the inaugural British Airways Open starts Friday.Phillip Corry and Mark Namanya report that the tournament had not been on UTA’s calendar, but was initiated by it’s sponsors British Airways who subsequently sunk in 6m.“We are hoping that it will be an annual event,” said UTA member James Kasumba. A host of big names have already entered the draw including John Oduke, Patrick Olobo, Charles Yokwe, James Odong and Janet Magona.Yokwe won the UTA Open in May after beating Chris Baagala in the final.The event’s draw will be held tomorrow. A special draw for the over-50 category will also be held to run concurrently with the major event. An inactive season early this year had sparked fears of another dreadful period before the timely change of UTA leadership.The week long event ends next Saturday after which focus will turn to the Uganda Open, the most prestigious event.Ends
