By Charles OpolotKAYUNGA Woman MP Victoria Ssebagereka has warned the people of Soroti against buying and using kaveera (polythene bags).Ssebagereka, who was addressing farmers from Gweri in Soroti during the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) tour last weekend, said the polythenes cause cancer and environmental degradation.“You people of Soroti, let us open war against kaveera. Stop using them because they are dangerous to our lives and environment,” she warned. She advised women never to use kaveera for covering food and urged them to bury rather than burn polythene materials.“These polythene bags are bad. They deplete soil and water resources. That is why you should neither burn them nor throw them all over the place. The best thing is never to use them at all,” Ssebagereka said. She was among six MPs on the agricultural committee who toured NAADS programmes in Soroti district. Ends
