IRELAND based Ugandan professional Livingstone Mbabazi has requested to be pardoned for his unfortunate Saturday escapade.

“I’m writing to apologise to the whole country for letting them down on national duty on Saturday against Ghana due to understandable problems which will be aired to the public through FUFA soon,” said Mbabazi in a piteous statement to The New Vision.

Mbabazi vanished from the Cranes team, skipping Uganda’s match against Ghana Black Stars. Uganda beat Ghana 1-0 in the African Nations Cup tie.

Midfielder Mbabazi said he will give the local soccer governing body FUFA a written explanation today.
Information from the Irish embassy shows that the St. Patrick Athletic player contacted their offices for a visa on Friday morning, and it was duly granted at 4.30pm on the same day.

His whereabouts are still unknown.

With a gifted but tainted history, Mbabazi is no stranger to controversy.

After landing at St. Patrick, Mbabazi enjoyed an eventful 2001-2002 season, earning celebrity like status for his consistent performances.

But he swiftly turned villain when his club, destined to win the Eircom league, was deducted a massive 15 points for having fielding him (Mbabazi) as an unregistered player early in the season.

Mbabazi’s last appearance for Cranes was against Senegal and he put up an astounding performance.
