Robber Suspect Attempts Suicide

A Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) deserter, arrested on suspicion of being a robber, cut his neck with a razorblade in a vain attempt to commit suicide in Luweero district.

A Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) deserter, arrested on suspicion of being a robber, cut his neck with a razorblade in a vain attempt to commit suicide in Luweero district.

The incident took place at Kiwoko police post over the weekend.

The Police identified the suspect as Pvt. Luyonde.

They said he was attached to the first division of the UPDF.

Kiwoko Police said Luyonde was about to cut his throat open by the time fellow inmates alerted the officer on duty.

He was immediately removed from the cell bleeding profusely.

Police sources said Luyonde was on Saturday morning arrested from Kyabaleme village, Magoma parish in Kikamulo sub-county, Nakaseke, after he was allegedly found with a military uniform and live bullets.

Luyonde reportedly got a razorblade from his pocket and tried to cut his neck. He was saved by the Police.
