THE Kasese district director of health services has said HIV/AIDS- positive pregnant mothers are to benefit from Anti-Retro-viral (ARVS) drugs for the prevention of mother-to-child HIV/AIDS transmission.

THE Kasese district director of health services has said HIV/AIDS- positive pregnant mothers are to benefit from Anti-Retro-viral (ARVS) drugs for the prevention of mother-to-child HIV/AIDS transmission.
Dr. Albert Peter Okui, who was was speaking at a three-day training workshop for people living with HIV/AIDS in Kasese town recently, said the drugs would be be offered free of charge to the women.
He said it will be received from Bwera, Kilembe and Kagando hospitals.
The workshop was organised by (NGEN), the National Guidance and Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
Okui pledged the district’s support to people living with HIV, saying they should not be marginalised.
He commended non-governmental and community-based organisations for actively engaging in lobbying for and advocating affordable accessibility of drugs to HIV/AIDS patients.
The NGEN programme manager, Jane Mwirumubi, said 21 district networks had been established in the country and that plans were underway to cover the rest of the country.
She said NGEN aims at promoting advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS.Ends
