THE Bushenyi District Police Commander, Makmot Okello, has started an operation to curb corruption among policemen and government officials.
Okello told The New Vision on Wednesday that he was going to deal “seriously” with any officials who demanded for bribes instead of serving the public.
“I have focused on officers who demand for bribes for free services,” Okello said.
He said he had already arrested three officers on the same charges, who had been remanded.
On September 18, Makmot contributed sh160,000 as a bribe to net the LC3 chairman of Kichwamba sub-county, Filly Matsiko and a police constable, Milton Mushabe.
The two officials have been remanded in Nyamushekyera Prisons.
A police constable attached to Ishaka Police Station, Deo Zakumumpa, was on September 22, 2002 arrested on suspicion of receiving a bribe of sh40,000. It is believed that the DPC contributed the money.
Okello did not confirm the name of the operation but other reliable sources said it was called corruption wembley.Ends
