FUFA will not respect today’s ruling by the Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (CADER) on a petition challenging the soccer body’s polls.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) secretary Haruna Mawanda says solving the matter via CADER contravenes CAF and FIFA statutes.
Mawanda argues that CADER falls under a judicial court structure yet soccer regulations prohibit solving disputes in courts of law.
FUFA delegates Badru Sentongo and Joseph Kakooza petitioned CADER challenging the December election that returned Dennis Obua as president. Sentongo and Kakooza want the polls nullified on grounds that the electoral process was fraudulent.
FUFA has no problem with an arbitration provided it is in line with Federation of International Football Associations and Confederation of African Football rules.
Among the option Mawanda prefers is applying FIFA’s Football Arbitration Tribunal.
“Why go against FIFA statutes and risk being banned when the same international body can finance the arbitration.”
Efforts last month to have the conflict solved failed after the warring parties disagreed on the procedure.
