Uganda history’s would perhaps be different today if Libyan President Muammar Al Gadaffi had not supported the NRM struggle, Col Kahinda Otafiire, state minister for regional cooperation reminisced on Friday evening.
As guest of honour at celebrations marking 33 years of the Great Al-Fatah revolution launched on September 1, 1967 by then 27-year-old Muammar Gadaffi, Otafiire praised the support and solidarity that contributed to the NRM’s toppling of the Milton Obote II regime.
“It is a great pleasure for us to associate with the Libyans on this auspicious occasion. We as a struggling continent have benefited from this liberation. I remember the Libyans stood by us during the NRM struggle when everybody else was afraid,” Otafiire who donned a black suit, with white shirt and light purple tie recollected at the residence of the Libyan Ambassador to Uganda, in Nakasero.
Guests included Tooro Kingdom’s Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, Bunyoro Kingdom’s King Iguru Solomon Gafabusa and Queen Margaret Karunga. Ends
