Operation Wembley personnel and Kenya police on Monday raided a village on the Kenyan side of Busia and recovered illegal weapons, reports Abraham Odeke.
An AK 47 rifle with 70 bullets were found buried in a garden in Marachi Village near the no man's land.
The operation that lasted two hours, followed the arrest of thugs in Jinja who had sneaked out of Mbale after committing armed robberies.
The thugs reportedly had their temporary base in Busia.
Busia District CID officer, Benard Muhumuza, said OPeration Wembley operatives were received by the Kenyan security officials who had been briefed about the operation.
“The gun and the bullets were found buried in the garden. We found it from the exact spot which had been described by the suspects arrested in Jinja, " Muhumuza said.
He declined to name the suspects saying it could jeopardise the search for more criminals.
The district commissioner of Busia(Kenya), Nathan Hiribae, said with cooperation between Kenya and Uganda, the criminals would be netted. He praised the Wembley Operation and hoped the Kenyan security officials would soon create a similar unit. Ends
