A total of 111 captives have been rescued within 10 days by the UPDF in its ongoing pursuit against the Lord’s Resistance Army.
The army has also captured four LRA rebels and recovered four machine guns.
This brings to 295, the number of captives rescued since the UPDF started using the helicopter gunships on September 2 in Gulu, Pader and Kitgum districts.
Nine captives were rescued from Lunyiri parish, Awere sub-county, Aruu county in Pader district on Independence Day.
Lunyiri is about 64 miles on the Gulu-Moroto road east of Gulu town, four miles to Corner Rackoko on the Lira-Kitgum road.
The spokesman of the UPDF 4th Division, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said the nine captives were rescued at about 1:30pm. No rebel or UPDF soldier was killed.
In September, 182 captives were rescued while others escaped from the rebels who were under pressure from the UPDF.
