THE Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels on Tuesday night turned their guns against the very Lord they purport to serve.

In another gruesome massacre, the LRA beat to death with big sticks a Church of Uganda pastor together with five other civilians at Lalogi on Gulu-Moroto road.

The Rev. Wilfred Kalama, 35, a pastor at Lalogi Church of Uganda, his brother Odoch, 25, Philip Ongom a.k.a Apil, 30, Tonny Nyeko, a man only identified as Sam and another unidentified person were beaten to death by the rebels who raided Lalogi villages, 37 miles on Gulu-Moroto road.

The rebels also torched 63 huts and 11 granaries.

Overall UPDF northern intelligence chief Lt. Col. Charles Otema - Awany, who travelled to Lalogi, said five victims were killed and their bodies lined up along the road. Another body was found in a nearby village.

Fourth Division spokesman Lt. Paddy Ankunda visited the scene of the massacre together with journalists.

Bishop Nelson Onono Onweng of Northern Uganda Diocese, who together with other religious leaders have been at the forefront of finding a peaceful end to the war, also visited the scene and retrieved the bodies of the priest and Odoch for burial today.

“I appeal to the rebels of the LRA to sympathise with the innocent civilians and stop killing them. The civilians have not done them any harm, especially God’s servant like the Reverend Wilfred who has dedicated his life to serve God,” Onono said.

“I appeal to Joseph Kony as leader of LRA to talk to his commanders to stop killing innocent civilians. The Acholi have suffered for 16 years in this war. We appeal to him to allow the war to end,” he added.

President Museveni recently advised religious leaders to avoid physical contact with the rebel commanders in their quest for peace.

He said the rebels had instructions from Kony to kill them.
